Candidates for the Office of School Trustee

As a long-time resident of West Vancouver and educator of 30+ years (B.A., M.Ed. Admin., Prime Minister’s Award), I’ve seen our community change along with the needs of our children. Our school district is doing well, but we can do even better – and I’m running on my record of Experience and Dedication to Build a Brighter Future For Our Children and Grandchildren. To accomplish that, my platform is built on Authenticity, Balance, and Community – the building blocks of success.

A: By encouraging Authentic learning experiences, we empower our children to form the habits they need for success beyond school. I am committed to encouraging our youth to reflect the values of personal responsibility, leadership, and positive self-esteem.

B: With upcoming teachers’ contract negotiations and budgets increasingly strained, working together has never been more important. I will collaborate with elected officials, parents, and educators to find the right Balance in achieving a harmonious school district.

C: A strong Community is built on the foundation of an excellent education system, and an excellent school system requires an engaged community. I will work with parents, educators, and community members to define and help realize an even brighter future for our children.

From our youngest students to our English Language Learners; from students with special needs to those who excel, I believe every child in our district deserves the best educational experience possible.

Parents, students and residents should feel confident that every child in our district is receiving an excellent educational experience that will help them develop into healthy, engaged citizens that are able to pursue the life path of their choice.

I have been a resident of West Vancouver since 2002, married a life long WV resident and we are raising our son here. I have been volunteering at my son's school (Ecole Pauline Johnson), am Past PAC Chair at PJ and Past Board Chair at PJ Kids Club, among other volunteer roles. My professional experience includes 20+ years in supply chain management, working in and with teams, managing budgets and have union experience on both sides of the table.

We are so lucky to be served by our amazing school district, SD45, with amazing staff and programs and as Trustee, I will work hard to ensure all families have every chance to access all that SD45 has to offer. ....No child left behind...

My husband Chuck and I live with our three sons in Whytecliff on the western edge of our municipality. I have been a committed, active, and engaged advocate for public education for many years and a School Board Trustee for four years.

The fundamental priority for every Trustee should be student achievement. My vision as an incumbent Board of Education Trustee is to ensure that every child’s potential can be nurtured in an environment that respects and honours personal differences in learning styles and aptitudes while supplying teachers and staff with the resources they need.

My Current Committees: Human Resources, Audit Committee, School Liaison for: Caulfeild (iDEC) Elementary, Eagle Harbour Montessori, Hollyburn Elementary, Ecole Sentinel Secondary

My Current Trustee Liaison Assignments: BC Public Schools Employers’ Association, BCSTA Metro Meetings, District Aboriginal Education Committee, ELL Metro Consortium, North Shore Congress, North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Working Group, WV Arts Centre Trust, WV Chamber of Commerce, WV Track and Field Liaison, WV Joint Traffic and Safety Committee, WV Streamkeeper Society

To maintain the excellent standard of education in our district we will need to continue to focus on the core challenges and threats: (1) a changing global environment driven by technology (2) maintain our scale and unique character (3) ensure stable labour relations (4) manage enrolment threats resulting from demographic changes and (5) focus on stable funding. Additionally I would like to focus on post-secondary success and ensure that we maintain a civil and open debate during a time where that seems to be the exception rather than the norm.

Hello my name is Dave Stevenson and I am proud to have served my community for 25 years on School District #45 West Vancouver's Board of Education. I believe in public education and understand that my role is to act effectively and strategically for the entire community. For 25 years I have demonstrated that I will do a good job our community and students. As we enter into contract negotiations with our teachers I will work to reach a fair contract settlement that maintains our ability to manage the school district and works for our students and school district. I listen to our community and make good decisions at the board table for our students. I will continue to focus on the needs of student achievement. We are first and foremost in the teaching and learning business as we incrementally improve our methods of teaching to support the success and achievement of each of our students. I ask for your support to add my voice to continue making our schools the best place for our children to learn
